Since the boyahda moss trick doesn’t work so hot on most servers, I decided to tell you guys another *server independent* way to max your Jeuno, Sandy, and Bastok fame for just about ZERO gil loss (if you have decent sandy fame to start with, you may even cut a profit) in about 2 hours or so of work. This amount of time is lowered if you have access to teleports (to be honest…you can just pay 500 gil to a white mage to do it for you…well worth the time imo) and warp.

Requirements:
Ability to get to San d’Oria and Selbina without any aggro (or just a chocobo license if you want to choco back and forth)
8,640 gil
An empty inventory

Introduction:
Ok, as I’ve already stated, the boyahda moss trick is entirely server dependent. On my server, you’re lucky to get a stack of moss for less than 9,000 gil - most often you get it for 10k+. This means you’re losing 2,800 gil per stack or more. However, if you’re like me, and you really don’t care about gil loss, and just want to max fame quickly, then by all means waste the gil on the moss. I did, and I’m not regretting a minute of it. However, it requires an initial investment of about 126,000-140,000 gil, which most people reading this probably don’t have access to. Therefore, it’s time for the low cost alternative.

What to do:
This one is pretty simple. You’ll be using the same quest as the Boyahda Moss quest, however, instead of Moss, you’ll be using La Thiene Cabbage (sp). Normally, this quest is MUCH worse than the moss quest, but ONLY if you buy off the AH. The trick to this is that in San d’Oria, pretty much all the time, you can buy La Theine Cabbage from a vendor in South San d’Oria for 24 gil each, working out to be 288 gil per stack. 30 stacks of these are 8,640 gil (hence the starting gil required).
There are 2 places you can get this cabbage for, one is Phamelise (k-9 south sandy), and the other is Aveline (f-7 south sandy). The one that I know is 24 gil is the k-9 one, and I haven’t checked the other. This 24 gil figure is with zero fame (mule), so you may actually get a better price than this if you have pre-existing fame.

On to what to do:
Head to South San d’Oria. Bind at the clostest point to your vendor of choice (I’m not very familiar with sandy, so I can’t be more specific then that). Empty your inventory, and go and buy 30 stacks of la thiene cabbage. Either Tele-Holla/Dem and choco to selbina, or just take a chocobo all the way to selbina. Find Meylon right outside the weaver’s guild (near the sheep) on the left set of stairs from the entrance. Trade all 360 cabbages to him. Warp back to sandy, rinse and repeat.

Tips:
It definately helps to have either a white mage friend that needs fame too, or to have a mule in sandy that can send you the cabbage and you hitch a tele from Jeuno. It cuts the travel time in half, and is pretty sweet.
Also, to speed up the trading, do what I do. Make sure you autosort your inventory so that all the cabbage is on the bottom. Then just enter the following sequence of keys. *Note* Make sure your menu is set on trade*
Tab (selects Meylon)
Menu Key (brings up trade option)
Enter (opens trade menu)
Enter (selects first slot for item trade)
Hold the right arrow for 1-2 seconds (scrolls to the bottom of the list)
Enter (selects a stack of cabbage)
Left Arrow (selects entire stack of cabbages)
Enter (accepts entire stack of cabbages)
Right Arrow for a second (scrolls to the accept button)
Enter Trades the entire stack of cabbage.
If you do this 2-3 times, you’ll find that you can hit all the buttons in about 4 seconds or less. Meylon does his own math, so if you trade 12 cabbages to him, he’ll give you back 7 and 100 gil. Makes it handy.
Once all your stacks are down to 2 cabbages, autosort and do it again. I don’t like to waste any time, so that’s what I do.

Also, as you can see, this is a fairly simple set of key presses to use…so macroing it wouldn’t be difficult at all. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to use ACTool, nor any inclination to learn, so if someone else wants to post a macro for it, feel free.
Having just completed rank 9 fame in windurst, the only other place that I need rank 9 fame in is Norg…and I don’t want Leviathon THAT badly :P

The Math
I’ll rehash all of the math, and compare it to the boyahda moss quest.

La Thiene Cabbage:
Cost per stack: 288
# of repeats per stack: 2.4
Gil received back per stack: 240
Gil lost per stack: 48
Gil lost per repeat: 16.6 (if you want to compare it to doing repeatables in sandy or bastok alone vs both at once, this is 8.3 gil per quest. Simply unbeatable)

so, for 30 stacks:
Cost: 8,640
# of repeats: 72 (this is the number I’ll use to compare to moss)
Gil received back: 7200
Gil lost: 1,440
Gil lost per repeat: 20 (doesn’t make any sense why it’d be higher here…but I’m just doing the math :P)

Boyahda Moss - will do this for various stack prices.
Cost per stack: 8,000
# of repeats per stack: 12
Gil received back per stack: 7,200
Gil lost per stack: 800
Gil lost per repeat: 66.6 (33.3 gil vs other cities. Simply ridiculous.)

Cost per stack: 9,000
# of repeats per stack: 12
Gil received back per stack: 7,200
Gil lost per stack: 1,800
Gil lost per repeat: 150 (75 gil per quest vs single cites. Still not bad. You’ll agree if you go to windurst and try to do repeats there)

Cost per stack: 10,000
# of repeats per stack: 12
Gil received back per stack: 7,200
Gil lost per stack: 2,800
Gil lost per repeat: 233 (117 gil per quest vs single cities. Here’s where it starts to become better to do other cities…but factor in the time you save in travel alone…makes this one worth it).

so, for 72 repeats:
# of stacks: 6
Cost per run (using an average of 9,000 gil): 54,000
# of repeats: 72 (duh!)
Gil received back: 43,200
Gil lost: 10,800
Gil lost per repeat: 150

Conclusions:
So, what all this boils down to is the following:
La Thiene Cabbage will get you 750% more quests for your money (7.5 Cabbage Quests :: 1 boyahda moss quest)
Boyahda Moss will give you 500% more quests per space in your inventory.

What this means is, if you have the initial funds, definately go with the boyahda moss. It’s less effective, but when we’re talking about needing ~160+ quests to max your fame (double the gil lost figures and such) depending on what your windy fame is, and your initial levels of fame, you can get all of them done in one trip (14-15 stacks of moss, equaling 25,200-27,000 gil lost @ 9,000 gil per stack) with moss. The same amount of questing with the cabbages can be done in 2-3 trips, but at a loss of only 3,360-3,600.

So what it comes down to is, if you have the money for moss, do you value that money or your time more. If you don’t have the money for moss, then here’s an awesome alternative.

Good luck and have fun :P
