There’s something called the elemental compass in this game. In southern sandoria, theres a guy on the wall by the East gate that talks about the constellations. This is a secret tip for better crafting results. Ex. if you face west while using a fire crystal, you will get more skill-ups (if you are skilling up) and more HQs (not a ton but it still aids in it) The entire elemental compass can be found here:

Also, if you eat Mandragora buds while crafting; I’ve found it aids you in your HQ synths. Using these strategies I’ve been able to synthesize steamed crab around 75% of the time (estimation) at lvl 54 cooking. A friend of mine who doesn’t use these strategies HQs them about 50% of the time at lvl 74 cooking.
