fishing guide (Buy Final Fantasy XI Gil)

#1) Fish for skill, NOT profit. At low levels, the gil is a nice bonus
but you should be focusing on skillup, for more money later!
#2) Sell to NPC’s. For most fish in this guide, the AH doesn’t move quick
enough to sell the item as fast as you’ll catch it. Exceptions might be:
Yellow Globes, Cobalt Jellyfish, Quus.
#3) Turn on all chat filters, and remove your linkpearl.
Talking to people slows down the rythem. it affects bites per hour.
#4) Clear out inventory space! as much as you can!
Take your pole, lure, and 4 pieces of fishing gear. Nothing more.
#5) As soon as you can, do the Gobbiebag quests.
Carrying more fish = carrying more money.
#6) Always use lures if possible. Cheaper, and if you fish smart,
you’ll only need 1!

Gear: (Requires starting capital, like any craft)
Do not be cheap here. If you can’t afford *all* items,
farm some more gil first. This really increases the speed of
skillgain/bites per hour.
#1) Fishermans Tunic
#2) Fishermans gloves
#3) Fishermans leggings
#4) Fishermans boots
#5) Mithran rod
#6) Sabiki rig

Please note, this guide is about SAFE (and therefor the least costly) fishing. There may be other places with better bite rates, or gil per catch.
There may be other places you can get skillups during the ‘dead zones’
But, I’m more interested in not replacing a rod or lure every 1000 casts.

Now that we have that out of the way, I’d also like to make another suggestion This step is entirely optional.
Purchase yourself a decent wireless gamepad!
Fishing becomes a *lot* less painfull if you can sit back and watch TV, and use a gamepad controller to fish. I personally use a Saitek p3000 wireless. I fish with full view of my computer monitor (even when watching TV) so I don’t need (or even want) the rumble motors.
However, when the fish bites, if you have a rumble device enabled, it will shake to let you know.
If you use a controller, you can easily fish while doing other things. And you won’t be inclined to chat (again killing your skillup rate) just keep an eye on the screen for GM conversations. Though it hasn’t happened to me yet, if a GM contacts you, and you don’t reply.. he’s just going to assume you are a bot. I will be having you fish in a *lot* of cities, so you will be getting a lot of tells (that you SHOULD ignore, most of the time it’s another annoying self-righteous bot-hunter) and after you ignore several, you *will* get a GM visit. Just do what he asks, and fish happily ever after.

the guide:

0-11
Port San d’Oria, Windurst Waters, Bastok Markets (bridge)
Mithran Rod/Insect Paste
In these aeras you will catch Moat Carp. Turn them in for the LuShangs quest (100gil per fish) or sell them on AH for about 3.5k/stack.

0-19:
Port windurst, Mhaura, Selbina, Port Bastok
Mithran rod/Sabiki Rig
In these areas, you will catch Cobalt Jellyfish, Pamtam Kelp, Bastore Sardines, Quus, Yellow Globes, and rusty items.
You’ll skill relatively quickly from 0-11 here. After 11, it still gains, but slowly.

10-14:
Selbina
Mithran rod/Minnow
Here, you will catch Greedie, and Fat Greedie. The Fat Greedie can be used for a quest in selbina.

14-17:
Mhaura
Mithran rod/Worm Lure
Here, your main target will be Yellow globes. The worm lure will focus on this particular fish, and you’ll gain skill a little faster than mentioned above with sabiki rig. Gains will still be slow (you ARE fishing)

15-27
Port San d`oria, North San d`oria, Windurst Waters, Bastok Markets (bridge)
Mithran Rod/Shrimp Lure
In these aeras you will catch Tricolord Carp and Gold Carp. Sell these directly to NPC. Tricolored will sell for about 120, and gold for over 400.. At 15, the gains will be slow, but the gil should be decent. You still won’t be making huge money yet. Stick with it!

27-47
Bastok Markets(Storage of water), Zeruhn Mines(bridge)
Mithran Rod/Worm Lure
In these aeras you will catch Dark Bass, and Black eels. The Dark bass will give good gains, but only sell for about 40gil to NPC. They’ll give gains till level 33. Black eels are what you are *really* after. They’ll sell for 300g each to NPC, and will cap you at 47 fishing! At the early stages of this section, gil and gains will be slow. by the latter skill, both should be coming in at a respectable pace.

40-53
Buburimu Peninsula (beach)
Mithran Rod/Rogue Rig
Warning! (It has been pointed out to me that this portion is not 100% safe as there is the chance of catching Bluetail, which can break the mithran. Please keep that in mind. I will research another path to 53, and update this ASAP.)
In this area, you’re primary focus will be on shall shells. I don’t recall the price, but I think they sold for about 600g per to NPC, or if you AH them, about 10k per stack. the rogue rig is quite expensive, but 2 stacks of shells on AH will earn it back. HOWEVER, any lure will work here for shal shells. Just not as effectively as rogue rig. The setup I described should have you making about 10-20k per hour depending on moon. If you use any other lure, expect it to cut into your profit potential.

53-69
East Sarutabaruta (lake)
Composite Rod/Fly Lure
This is where fishing becomes extremely slow to gain. Especially at early levels. It’ll take you to level 69, and the crescent fish sell to the guild for 1300 gil. The downside? Read the first line of this description. I’m 55 fishing, and am catching about one stack every 2 hours. Ready for the next level? We recommend The MMORPG Exchange for your FFXI GIL needs. Normally when a White Mage teleports another player you and the other player are both teleported. What if you could stay and keep inviting more people? Eliminate the need to zone, twice and even eliminate the need to use Warp, Saving even more MP. And we all no MP is money.
-The trick is to get the White Mage job to an appropriate level to use teleport spells,WITHOUT GETTING ANY OF THE CRAG CRYSTALS.
The most practical method is simply to make a mule and level it up to 36-42 White Mage. and park it in Lower Jeuno outside you’re Mog House.
When you do run out of MP, Zone into, and back out of you’re Mog House. Full MP again
-I say this is most practical because most people reading this have already grabbed those Crag Crystals. Its not too much work to level the easiest levelling job in the gameto 36-42. Especially when your mule starts to make more money than you do

-No more missed teleports while you are away.

-Less downtime due to not having to Warp back.

-I have seen my Teleport profits increase from 100k a day to 400k a day Ready for the next level? We recommend The MMORPG Exchange for your FFXI GIL needs. MMORPG-Exchange has supplied us for years and has great customer service and 24/7 instant delivery.

Ram Strategy:

Where to fight……

Konshcat Highlands and La Theine Plateu.

What to bring……..

I’d recomend level 30+ to be safe and bring ranger subjob for widescan which can be very very helpful, as a level 28NIN/WAR i can own theese though the only thing keeping me alvie is Utsusemi: Ichi without that i’d be dead because they hit for 30-45 damage, be warned even a level 30 can die even though theese rams are level 21-23 Petribreath can own =(.

What to kill and how to make the biggggg money…….

In Konschat Highlands your’re looking for Tremor Rams on widescan and in the areas to the north-west also look for Stray Mary and kill mad sheep. What your after is Mary’s Horn, Ram Horn, Ram Skin, Mary’s Milk, Giant Sheep Meat, Sheepskins and Sheep Teeth

‘Note’ All Prices are seraph based!

Mary’s Horn = 200k-250k
Ram Horn = 2.5k
Ram Skin = 500 Gil
Mary’s Milk = 8k
Giant Sheep Meat = Priceless ^^;; (200 Gil a Piece)
Sheepskin = 500 Gil
Sheep Teeth = 4k Per Stack

If you spend enough time with this strat you can make some gewd money!

Emperor Hairpin Strategy:

Yes, a strat involving 3 people camping VE in a party

Setup……

Bring 3 people with widescan and a fast-cast and party up, choose 3 camps and spam widescan while killing flys this helps in gettting emporer might wanna try it, it’s not much though.

After a long time of camping him try fiquring out areas he pops most and have theese as your "camps" it might help a little bit and also a thf 45+ will help…..alot TH2 increases rare drops by 30% from what i’ve seen, i’ve been using this strat and im 9/16 on him, the first hairpin i needed for my ninja so i kept it but the rest the profits were split up and we have gotten the claim 7 times in a row we’re even beating the kiss botters on our server!

Found this one on FFXIOnline while I was supposed to be running revenue numbers.. ah well…

This has some more detail beyond level 11, and some good grouping ideas, but is pretty bare bones until then.

Final Fantasy XI Gil.

No, its not really free, but in the end you end up having more money than when you started. You should have a decent bankroll to start out with. 100K would be good but it could take you longer to skill up since the materials can get expensive later on.

This isn’t really a guide, but more of a journal of my experiences of woodworking to lvl 60 while still gaining a profit. There are good guides available to reference when you are trying to skill up. I recommend finding one you like and going with it.

I have a lvl 54 main job and rank 5 status. Not that you really need that, but it helps when you need to travel and stuff. As most of you have experienced, being a damage dealer at that lvl means that a good amount of time is spent searching for parties. Sometimes hours and even days can pass before you get an invite. So I used this time as efficiently as possible.

First of all, you start out by skilling up by making lumber. Arrowwood, ash, etc… I highly recommend going to La Theine Plateau and farming air elementals. I always checked the weather guy in town to see if it was going to be windy. When it is windy, you are good to go. One way to go is to sub RNG or BST for widescan; or THF for TH1. If you can go as higher lvl RNG/THF, THF/RNG, BST/THF…you are gold. I didn’t so it took a little longer. But I got the job done and saved lots of gil by not buying at the AH.

Once you get a good amount of wind clusters, go to San Doria and buy hatchets. I went to Carpenter’s Landing and bought about 3 stacks. Do you need 3 stacks…not at all. I just sold the other 2 on AH for double the cost and practically got my stack for free.

I cleared my inventory as much as possible and headed to Ghelsba Outpost to do some logging. Most people think this is a waste of time but I actually found it very helpful. It wasn’t nearly as overcamped as I thought and the logging points came very frequently.

Rinse and repeat the above process until you get no more skill ups. I recommend saving the lumber because you are going to need it…trust me. The AH prices on those lumbers are just rape considering the cost at the guild. But since the guild always sells out 2 nanoseconds when it opens, it is just worth the time to save.

Sidenote: while logging, keep the elm logs because they sell for mucho-gil. If you try to camp the guild, buy these fast because they sell for about 8k-10k on AH fairly quickly. (Server dependent) Also, if you have extra lightning crystals around, make Maple sugar from the maple logs and sell those at Windy AH. I have a mule there and I was able to sell for about 1.5k to 3k a stack easily. All this extra gil will become very valuable when you start buying those expensive materials later on.

Time to make arrows…I hope you saved your lumber. Also, get those Earth crystals ready because you will need them…and lots of them. One easy way to stock up on earth crystals is to start a new lvl 1 job and go hunting. Most of the worms and rabbits drop earth crystals so you can easily get plenty in no time…don’t forget Signet. I ended up buying more at the AH anyway because I got lazy. This doesn’t kill your profit but it doesn’t help either. As you skill up, sell your arrows at Jeuno AH. The tax kind of hurts but I found they sell 10 times faster there (10 times is just a figure of speach but you get the idea). Horn arrows, scorpion arrows, and Darksteel bolts are your best bets.

Now I am lvl 60 in woodworking and I still have around the same amount of gil when I started. It took me about a week or two of casual skilling. I would have lots more if I didn’t have to buy crystals and lumber at the AH. I was wrong to sell my lumber ahead of time and I ended up having to buy more. Laziness again. But if you stand firm and go for the low cost, heavy farm approach, you can get there with more money in your bank.

Also, get lumberjack as soon as you can. The profit will start to come even faster when you can lumberjack your own lumber. You use the lumber you need and sell the rest. You don’t even have to go logging much because you can buy the logs fairly cheap at the guild and Carpenter’s Landing.

I hope I was able to help out a bit.

Lets see this is kinda a long one, but it should help.

Mog Safe #1 (increases safe size to 60 items)

*Need high fame in home nation

Place a bronze bed in your house before the conquest results are tallied. If your fame is high enough, your moogle will say something about being homesick. He will ask for 2 items, a Power Bow and Beetle Ring (prices vary depending on server). After a few days (can’t remember if it’s game days or rl days), you have a new safe that can hold 60 items.

Mog Safe #2 (increases safe size to 70 items)

*complete Mog Safe #1

Place a mahogany bed in your house before the conquest results are tallied. Once again your moogle will be homesick. He asks for 2 different items this time, Selbina butter and a Shrimp Lure. After a few days he returns with a new safe that can hold 70 items.

Mog Safe #3

*complete Mog Safe #1 and Mog Safe #2

Place a Noble Bed in your house before the conquest results are tallied. Once again your moogle will be homesick. He wants 2 items again, this time a Raptor Mantle and a Wool Hat. After you give those to him, he once again comes back in a few days with a safe that can hold 80 items.

During these quests, the moogle does not actually leave your house, he is still hovering there, for your needs. However for the quest purposes, it is stated that he is returning home to see his family or friends. All items prices vary on the Auction house dependant on what server you are on and overall market fluctuations. If the market is overpopulated you may get it for cheaper. I can’t really give any tips on how to get the gil to afford the items, because personally I have gil problems myself. I don’t know the exact amount of fame that you need, it has been quite a while since I did the first quest.

Never Die As A THF……ever! (Final Fantasy x2)

Here is a macro that every THF MUST have

/attackoff
/wait 2
/ja "Perfect Dodge" <me>
/wait 2
/logout

This macro disengages you from your attack, busts out the trusty perfect dodge, and then because your player is removed from the world a couple seconds after you log, it makes sure you wont be harmed while logging.

Anyways i just hope this macro helps others, as it has saved me many a death now and many an hour not spent regaining lost XP.

Just type this macro into one of yoru hotkeys line by line and your good to go

I did this last night with my friend. We BOTH had level 0 Windy Fame and were able to do this stradegy in a total of 3 hours we BOTH had level 9 Widnurst Fame.

What You Need (Super Fast Way):
2 WHM/BLM’s
Both WHM’s Must have the same Teleport-X spell
Both Must have Warp Spell

What You Do:

One of you goto Bastock, while the other one goes to Windy.

WHM –> Bastock:

Set you HP In the Bastock Markets. Open up your map and find the Music Shop located in Bastock Markets. Head over that way and FILL your invintory with Corenetts. (For me, each Corenett was 219g and i have Hero fame in Bastock) Once your invintory is full do a Teleport-X and wait for your friend.

WHM –> Windurst:

Set your HP in Windurst Water. Directly accross from the HP is a Tavern, go in that Tavern and as soon as you walk in there is a Female Taru sitting on a Chair. She will tell you what your current lvl of fame is. Talk to here EVERY trip just to make sure. Leave the Tavern and head to Windurst Walls. The First Building you can enter on your Left is where you are going. Eneter there and talk to the man who wants you to bring him 1 Corenett for studying. Teleport-X and meet up with your friend already there.

WHM –> Bastock:

Trade all the Corenetts to your friend. Warp back to HP and repete.

WHM –> Windurst:

Once you have a full invintory of Corenetts Warp back to your HP ahd head to Windurst Walls. Trade the NPC 1 corenette. For each corenett he will give you 200g. Once you are empty, Teleport-X and meet up with your freind again. Repete. (Be sure to check your fame on the way back to Walls)…you do NOT need to Zone for each Corenett!!!

My friend and i did this last night. Each trip we traded 27 Corenetts to the NPC, and EACH trip Raised our Fame by at least 1 level. So it took a total of 9-10 Trips each o get levle 9 Windy Fame from 0.

Once one of us had full fame, we just switched and one went to Windy and the Other to Bastock. Total time it took was about 3 hrs for BOTH of us. By far the Easiest way to get Windy fame.

Factors:

I have lvl 9 fame in Bastock, so the price for the Corenetts my be more expensive for someone who is not as high. If you do not have level 9 Bastock fame already, i suggest reading the stradegy about the Selbina Moss Quest to get fast Bastock Fame.
This stradegy only worked THIS fast because both of us were WHM/BLM’s. Any other combo COULD work but not as fast.

Other Option:

Same stradegy except this time one person sends you the corenetts through the AH. Its slower for sure, but still worth it.
