This exploit is similar to the one at the boat in Valkurm Dunes(which helped me level from 18-20).
You can do this at level 20 with Black mage. Exit Jeuno into Battalia Downs and go straight out. After passing the gates you’ll see a stone wall(pos. J-8) near a mountain. What I did was pull a Sapling to this wall and ran between the wall and mountain to the other side of the wall. It will come after you, but it will go all the way around the wall to come to the other side. You blast it again as its coming towards you and take a few steps between the wall and mountain, take a few steps forward(the mob is on the other side and now you can’t see it on your screen) and cast another spell. Then repeat. 200 xp. Have fun.

The first weeks sales for Final Fantasy XIII have been tallied in the UK by retail tracker Chart-Track and the result is unsurprising. FFXIII is number one in the chart followed by Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Just Dance. Official sales figures are yet to be released.

However, this is of course the first multi-platform Final Fantasy. Although the Final Fantasy series is more of a Playstation franchise, the PS3 only claimed 54% of the sales. That means 46% of copies in the UK are for Xbox 360. This could be a combination of stronger than usual 360 sales in the UK compared to the rest of Europe as well as the exclusive advertising Microsoft has been plastering everywhere. It’s still a small victory for the PS3 however. It seems brand loyalty and nostalgia does count for something.

Ok, considering I’ve been pestering people for leveling guides and places I could go to kill stuff…I figured I’d help some newbies out with a level by level account of where to go to level.

Unfortunately, I can only really provide a specific guide for Windurst. I can give suggestions of what I’ve heard for Bastok, but nothing for San d’Oria…sorry.

First, my credentials:
Currently, I’m a Taru taru with level 20 Black Mage, level 12 White Mage, level 8 Theif, and level 5 warrior. I’ve completed sub job, eco warrior, and chocobo quests (just the lengthy ones that are a pain…tons of little stupid quests). I’ve done up to mission 4, will be doing mission 5 tonight. I have something like 20k in gil…depending on what sells tonight. I’m also in a link shell. Not bragging, because lord knows that’s meager enough as is. Just showing that I know enough to help people just starting out.

Windurst::

Ok, first, I’d have to say that you should start by getting signet cast on you. So many people forget to do this…they think it doesn’t matter. Guess what…it does, and it always will. I see lots of high level people going out without signet too…now I could understand if you’re going some place far from your residence. But if you plan on leveling up subjobs, let me tell you, you’ll be pretty much heading to the same areas again and again…therefore getting them under your country’s control is in your best interest. Selling crystals is your best friend…it’ll be the only way you’ll be able to finance your spells and gear for quite some time.

Last thing before I get to the leveling guide, a note about equipment. Seriously…don’t bother. I’ve found it’s really a waste of your gil and your time. It won’t make you capable of tanking…it will marginally improve your chances of soloing after level 8. That is of course, you pick an inferior mage race :P That being said, try to pick up a Robe, then a tunic, then a Royal Footmen’s tunic. Generally….anything that gives +int…buy it. Don’t bother wasting gil on anything else (unless you check and see that you can make profit by buying something at a vender and selling it on the AH…robe and tunic come to mind). Moving on::

Levels 1 -3:
Spend your time in East Sarutabaruta right outside town. Rest any time your mana gets low - you’ll start to notice that you have to rest more than any of your non-mage friends. Welcome to the world of mages…it doesn’t get any better until you start using ‘ga spells to kill everything on your screen. Until you do that…prepare to be jealous of warriors, monks, theives, or anything else that isn’t a mage.

Levels 4-5:
These levels you can stop killing the ridiculously easy stuff and move on to rarabs (and the occasional mandragora / bee). The best place I found is if you make your immediate right coming out of the gate to east saruta - some people will probably be fishing there, but other than that, I’ve found this area to be pretty much empty, allowing you to kill at your leisure (sometimes lotsa noobs are on so it can be hard to get the higher exp granting kills)

Levels 6-8:
Now’s the time you can move on to Yagudo’s and Crawlers. Once you get water, you’ll find the mobs start to fall a little quicker…but you’ll still be resting a lot. You can also take out crows with ease by now, but before taking on ANY mob that you’ve never faught before, make sure you’re at full hp/mp and see how much it takes to kill them. I’d wait till level 7 or even 8 to kill crawlers - not because they’re that hard, but because they tend to poison you…can’t tell you how many times I died when I had like 29 hp or more left and it just clicked down. Very frustrating. Good spots abound the areas north of the gate. Go towards the entrance to Tahrongi canyon to get progressively harder creatures. The best place I found was actually in West Sarutabaruta, but only because less high level people run threw there and take your crawlers (these things a gems to kill because they drop Silk Threads - precious things used in crafting….a dozen sold for 9k but a few weeks ago, but us silly americans have driven it down to 7900 last I heard. Still a pretty penny considering how easy they are to kill).

Levels 9-10:
These were the hardest 2 levels for me. You aren’t yet high enough to party up reliably to kill things that give enough exp, but unfortunately…this is when you start to really only be to kill things that con as easy to you. Pain in the butt to fight stuff like this over and over and over. A good place for this is the outside of Giddeus. It’s on your West Saru map, and when you enter, make a right first, and keep running. Run across the river you come across and stay towards the right. Keep going until you see a Yagudo NPC that doesn’t attack. Camp right in the place you came, rest there when you need, and just sit back and nuke Yags as they spawn. Bind helps a lot.

HOWEVER: While leveling my black mage AND my white mage, I managed to get lucky for the most part. At level 9 for blm and level 8 for whm, I managed to hook up with 6 people the same level as me. With 1 person with voke, and at least 1 white and black mage, you can CHAIN dhalmels at level 8. Yes, you heard me, Level 8. It takes some nice team work, and preferably 2 black mages, 2 vokers, and 1 whm. The black mages should preferably have whm subs so that they can heal if need be, but you can see how many combinations you could work that would be able to chain dhalmels. If you manage to get lucky, I suggest the North West area of Tahrongi Canyon (by the entrance to Meriphaut Mountains (sp?)). There’s enough dhalmels here to feed 2 groups consistently enough to make you need to rest before the chain dies. The highest I’ve managed at this level was 5. In a full party of 6, dhalmels should get you to about level 12 if your real lucky, 11 if your party gets bored.

Levels 11-12:
You have a choice as a black mage. If you’re in a party you can trust and you guys have some time, head over to Buburimu Pennisula and camp inside the Outpost right in the beginning. Start pulling sylvestres and the occasional Mighty Rarab. Only do this if you have 1 or more voker, and 1 or more whm that you know knows how to heal. Melee characters who know how to renki are a plus but not mandatory. Be careful of gobs, and make sure all mages stay well away from mob (just about of the ones in the area have some sort of Area of Effect spell). I have many friends who swear by this area. I was here with my whm - it’s not that bad. To be honest, if those of you reading this aren’t black mages…this is the place to be with a party without a lot of black mages.

Those of you reading that actually are Black Mages, get a white mage and as many other black mages as you can together. Go to Shakrami Maze (if you don’t know where that is…just follow the crowd of people going to North Eastern Tahrongi Canyon). Band up and kill Maze Makers. I went from level 11 to level 17 in less than 24 hours ( 2 sessions of playing ) including 2-3 deaths. Once you get fire they really do become a joke. 2 black mages that play it smart can take on MM’s from level 13 to level 19 in ridiculously short amounts of time. As a black mage, this is where you should spend your time. Why? Because each maze maker will give 200 exp to a full party of 6 up to level 14.
Hints for killing Maze Makers:
once you have a maze maker claimed (it may be difficult during rush hours), run away. Slowly approach and continue trying to cast a spell until you are at the very edge of your spell casting range. Procede to nuke.
If the maze maker starts casting Rasp, or Bind, back up a few steps and wait for the cast animation to go away. Go back to max range and continue nuking.
With the new changes in how claiming a monter work, make sure you stagger the attackers on the maze maker so that at all times someone is attacking it and another person is resting. Watch out for Stonega - it can be a doozy at the lower levels.

Levels 16-20:
For those of you that get sick of the maze, or are just frustrated from running from gob trains someone created (or running from ghouls, as that happens too), level 17 is the perfect time to head off to Selbina to start your search for the Subjob quest items. In one night, I was able to hook up with some level 19s and get all 3 subjob items and level to 18. To get to Selbina, go through the Buburimu Pennisula and into Mhaura (a town). There, talk to the people near the water to buy a boat ticket (100 gil). The boat takes you to selbina, and directly outside selbina are the Valkurm Dunes. Another great place to level - just stay away from Pugils until later levels 19 and 20 - they can be painful without a group that knows how to renki.

Passing Remarks:

Once you hit level 8-9ish, if you can hook up with a party of 6, do it. Black Mages are party creatures - for leveling purposes, they thrive in a party where all they have to do is waste MP. If you really have to, you can solo things with Bind (and luck), but really…it’s not worth it. I die more times simply because your spells get interupted, your Fire suddendly decides to do 3 damage instead of 45…etc. Swallow your pride and learn to look for parties. As a black mage, it really shouldn’t be too hard.

Spells:
I’ve found the the only spells I really use are the top 3 elemental spells for my level (at level 20 that’s Blizzard, Fire, Aero, in that order…soon to be Thunder, Blizzard, Fire) really at all. The other spells seem to not really do much. The ones with MOST effect, hoever, are as follows:
Poison - at lower levels, it doesn’t do much damage. at higher levels…it doesn’t do much damage. Just use this to get your enfeebling skills up so that when you sub a whm your dia will own
Blind - probably the only useful enfeebling spell I’ve bought. Actually makes ITs miss….which can save a lot of MP for your whm, allowing your chains to go longer
Bind - really the only way you’re going to be able to solo anything after level 8 or 9 unless you picked a galka blm….and if you picked a galka blm….good luck getting invites.
Other than that….the enfeebles seem to be useless. I hear good things about Bio, but A) You’ll have 0 dark skill when you get it, therefore it’ll be a while before it becomes anything but a waste of mp and B) it doesn’t stack with Dia, which is a much better spell to begin with. Therefore, if you plan on subbing a whm or a rdm (really the only 2 logical choices if blm is staying your main), don’t bother getting Bio. Shock has been useless, rasp has been useless, and poison is only good to keep your enfeeble going up.

A note on ‘ga’s. Don’t bother getting these until at least level 24. Until then, you can’t even really take hits of mobs much lower level than you (because you’ll have ridiculously bad gear for your level unless you skimp on spells….maybe not buying those enfeebles would’ve helped me in that respect), so just wait until you’re high enough level to Train quadov’s in the Palbourough Mines in Bastok (I hear you can make GREAT money doing this) and cast Waterga and Aeroga a few times and kill them all.

Bastok:

Not nearly as much info on bastok, but I do have to say that it seemed like crystals dropped much more frequently here. Maybe that was just my imagination…also….again, be wary of Rock Lizards - you may be able to kill them without dying off the bat…but a lot of the times their poison will finish the job.

Good luck and have fun leveling :)

fishing guide (Final Fantasy x strategy)

#1) Fish for skill, NOT profit. At low levels, the gil is a nice bonus
but you should be focusing on skillup, for more money later!
#2) Sell to NPC’s. For most fish in this guide, the AH doesn’t move quick
enough to sell the item as fast as you’ll catch it. Exceptions might be:
Yellow Globes, Cobalt Jellyfish, Quus.
#3) Turn on all chat filters, and remove your linkpearl.
Talking to people slows down the rythem. it affects bites per hour.
#4) Clear out inventory space! as much as you can!
Take your pole, lure, and 4 pieces of fishing gear. Nothing more.
#5) As soon as you can, do the Gobbiebag quests.
Carrying more fish = carrying more money.
#6) Always use lures if possible. Cheaper, and if you fish smart,
you’ll only need 1!

Gear: (Requires starting capital, like any craft)
Do not be cheap here. If you can’t afford *all* items,
farm some more gil first. This really increases the speed of
skillgain/bites per hour.
#1) Fishermans Tunic
#2) Fishermans gloves
#3) Fishermans leggings
#4) Fishermans boots
#5) Mithran rod
#6) Sabiki rig

Please note, this guide is about SAFE (and therefor the least costly) fishing. There may be other places with better bite rates, or gil per catch.
There may be other places you can get skillups during the ‘dead zones’
But, I’m more interested in not replacing a rod or lure every 1000 casts.

Now that we have that out of the way, I’d also like to make another suggestion This step is entirely optional.
Purchase yourself a decent wireless gamepad!
Fishing becomes a *lot* less painfull if you can sit back and watch TV, and use a gamepad controller to fish. I personally use a Saitek p3000 wireless. I fish with full view of my computer monitor (even when watching TV) so I don’t need (or even want) the rumble motors.
However, when the fish bites, if you have a rumble device enabled, it will shake to let you know.
If you use a controller, you can easily fish while doing other things. And you won’t be inclined to chat (again killing your skillup rate) just keep an eye on the screen for GM conversations. Though it hasn’t happened to me yet, if a GM contacts you, and you don’t reply.. he’s just going to assume you are a bot. I will be having you fish in a *lot* of cities, so you will be getting a lot of tells (that you SHOULD ignore, most of the time it’s another annoying self-righteous bot-hunter) and after you ignore several, you *will* get a GM visit. Just do what he asks, and fish happily ever after.

the guide:

0-11
Port San d’Oria, Windurst Waters, Bastok Markets (bridge)
Mithran Rod/Insect Paste
In these aeras you will catch Moat Carp. Turn them in for the LuShangs quest (100gil per fish) or sell them on AH for about 3.5k/stack.

0-19:
Port windurst, Mhaura, Selbina, Port Bastok
Mithran rod/Sabiki Rig
In these areas, you will catch Cobalt Jellyfish, Pamtam Kelp, Bastore Sardines, Quus, Yellow Globes, and rusty items.
You’ll skill relatively quickly from 0-11 here. After 11, it still gains, but slowly.

10-14:
Selbina
Mithran rod/Minnow
Here, you will catch Greedie, and Fat Greedie. The Fat Greedie can be used for a quest in selbina.

14-17:
Mhaura
Mithran rod/Worm Lure
Here, your main target will be Yellow globes. The worm lure will focus on this particular fish, and you’ll gain skill a little faster than mentioned above with sabiki rig. Gains will still be slow (you ARE fishing)

15-27
Port San d`oria, North San d`oria, Windurst Waters, Bastok Markets (bridge)
Mithran Rod/Shrimp Lure
In these aeras you will catch Tricolord Carp and Gold Carp. Sell these directly to NPC. Tricolored will sell for about 120, and gold for over 400.. At 15, the gains will be slow, but the gil should be decent. You still won’t be making huge money yet. Stick with it!

27-47
Bastok Markets(Storage of water), Zeruhn Mines(bridge)
Mithran Rod/Worm Lure
In these aeras you will catch Dark Bass, and Black eels. The Dark bass will give good gains, but only sell for about 40gil to NPC. They’ll give gains till level 33. Black eels are what you are *really* after. They’ll sell for 300g each to NPC, and will cap you at 47 fishing! At the early stages of this section, gil and gains will be slow. by the latter skill, both should be coming in at a respectable pace.

40-53
Buburimu Peninsula (beach)
Mithran Rod/Rogue Rig
Warning! (It has been pointed out to me that this portion is not 100% safe as there is the chance of catching Bluetail, which can break the mithran. Please keep that in mind. I will research another path to 53, and update this ASAP.)
In this area, you’re primary focus will be on shall shells. I don’t recall the price, but I think they sold for about 600g per to NPC, or if you AH them, about 10k per stack. the rogue rig is quite expensive, but 2 stacks of shells on AH will earn it back. HOWEVER, any lure will work here for shal shells. Just not as effectively as rogue rig. The setup I described should have you making about 10-20k per hour depending on moon. If you use any other lure, expect it to cut into your profit potential.

53-69
East Sarutabaruta (lake)
Composite Rod/Fly Lure
This is where fishing becomes extremely slow to gain. Especially at early levels. It’ll take you to level 69, and the crescent fish sell to the guild for 1300 gil. The downside? Read the first line of this description. I’m 55 fishing, and am catching about one stack every 2 hours.

As summerfest is going on, I’ve noticed u get sent to certain High Level dungeons to find goalpoints with a level down effect, and almost indefinite sneak + invis.

Now If you manage to figure out a way to get sent to Ifrit’s Cauldron your in luck. You and your partner can keep going back, search the whole zone for mining points, uninvis mine, and die, be back in town, and get sent back for another round. With no risk you can reap the rewards of mining in a uber high level zone, and make a killing.

Paladin Artifacts

Sharpening the Sword - PLD AF1
A Boy’s Dream - PLD AF2
Borghertz’s Stalwart Hands
Garlaige Coffer - PLD AF
Beadeaux Coffer - PLD AF
Under Oath - PLD AF3

Sharpening the Sword - PLD AF1
First do the Father and Son quest and make sure to give the fishing pole back to the son. Then, after talking with Ailbeche again, head to Ordelle’s Caves and look for a stalagmite around H-10 of the first level. This triggers the spawn of Polevik, an Earth Elemental. After you kill him, touch the stalagmite again to receive a key item.

Talk to Sobane in (D-6) of South San d’Oria. Then go back to Ailbeche for the Honor Sword.

This Quest is Repeatable

A Boy’s Dream - PLD AF2
You must be level 50 and have completed the PLD AF1 quest for the Honor Sword before you can get this quest.

After getting the quest from Ailbeche, go talk to Ailbeche’s father, Exorache. He is in weapons shop in South San d’Oria. Then go back to Ailbeche and talk to him again. He wants you to get a ‘giant shell bug’ (fishing bait) from Crawler’s Nest.
The NM crawler Dreadbug can be found around (H-9) by talking to ???. After you kill Dreadbug you’ll obtain 2-3 ‘Giant Shell bug’. You should keep them all or at least 2 since you might lose the catch when you try to fish.

You can skip this part if you have enough Gil and if the item is available at the Auction House.

After you get item, you MUST go back to Ailbeche and trade him the bait. If you don’t and you don’t have bait anymore after the fish fight, you have to get the bait again in order to get the quest going. So make sure you trade the bait with Ailbeche after you get it.

After that he’ll tell you you can catch a big one in Castle Oztroja. Find the pond where there are Oozes roaming around at (H-9). You should clear the area because they will aggro when you’re fighting. They are good for building up TP.

Fishing skill level doesn’t matter. Any rod that is designed for big fishes should be okay. Equip the ‘Giant Shell Bug’ along with rod and fish in the pond until you pull up Odontotyrannus. A full PT of level 55 should suffice.

After the fight, the fish will drop ‘Odontotyrannus’. Take the item and go back to Ailbeche and trade with him. He’ll then tell you to go to Selbina to cut open its belly and obtain the treasure. In Selbina trade the item with Zaldon at the Fishing Guild. He’ll give you key item ‘A Knight’s Boots’. Now go back to North San d’Oria, enter Chateau d’Oraguille and go to Prince Trion’s room. He’ll then reward you with the Gallant Leggings.

This Quest is Repeatable

Borghertz’s Stalwart Hands
You must have completed PLD AF1 for the Honor Sword before you can get this quest.

After you receive the quest from Guslam go to the Eldieme Necropolis and get a Eldieme Coffer key then use it on the coffer chest to receive "some old gauntlets", a key item.

After you received the old gauntlets, return to Guslam. He will say the gauntlets are work of Borghertz, but he cannot repair them.

You then have to go speak to Yin Pocanakhu in the Tenshodo shop in Lower Jeuno who talks about a toolbox that won’t open. You have to pay her 1000 gil to tell you where the toolbox is at.

Once you pay her, she then tells you she left the toolbox on top of a crate outside of the Duty-Free shop in Port Jeuno and that you can have it.

When you examine the ???, a cutscene happens and Borghertz appears and asks that you bring him some "shadow flames" from Castle Zvahl. Go to Castle Zvahl Baileys and examine the torch at (F-8). A NM bomb by name of Dark Spark will appear. Kill it and examine the torch a second time to get the key item "Shadow Flames".

After you have received the shadow flames return to Jeuno and re-examine the ??? outside of the Duty-Free to get your reward.

This Quest is Repeatable

Garlaige Coffer - PLD AF
In order to do this "quest" you must first talk to the Guslam, a Galka in the armor shop in Upper Jeuno, to start Borghertz’s Stalwart Hands. You must also have completed the PLD AF1 quest for the Honor Sword.

You will need to acquire a Garlaige Coffer Key, which is dropped by Fallen Officers, Fallen Mages, and Fallen Majors. You can also get the key off Vault and Over weapons.

Once you have the key you will need to find the Treasure Coffer. All the coffer spawns are past either the Second or Third Banishing Gate, so you will need to either hitch a ride with a party going in or bring 3 other people with you to open the gates. Once you find the Treasure Coffer, trade the Coffer Key and you will receive the Gallant Coronet.

This Quest is Repeatable

Beadeaux Coffer - PLD AF
In order to do this "quest" you must first talk to the Guslam, a Galka in the armor shop in Upper Jeuno, to start Borghertz’s Stalwart Hands. You must also have completed the PLD AF1 for the Honor Sword.

You will need to acquire a Beadeaux Coffer Key, which is dropped by Ancient, Darksteel, Sapphire, and Platinum Quadavs.

First off, buy a map of Beadeaux from the map seller at (H-9) in a tent in Bastok Markets (by the Goldsmithing guild).

You enter Beadeaux at (E-7) on Map #1. Make your way to the underground tunnel entrance at (H-7). On Map #2, head down the tunnel and turn your first right at the intersection. Now, it’s time for a decision. You have ‘The Mute’ (silences you) to your right, and ‘The Afflictor’ (curses you) to your left. Have everyone but the White Mage become silenced and have your White Mage become cursed. Head to (F-8) to go back above ground.

From (F-8) above ground, run to (E-10) and head up the ramp to the higher level area. At this point, have your White Mage cast Cursna on himself/herself, and Silena everyone else in the party.

Run to (K-6) and be sure to stay on the higher level area all the way there. Level 55 and under people may start to get aggroed by quadavs by this point, so be careful. There will be a tunnel entrance at (K-6) on the lower level area that you can drop down to.

You’ll be back on Map #2 now at (J-6). Make your way to the (M-7) cross-intersection room. There will be two crawlers in that room that you should kill. This will be your camp!

You can pull the targeted quadavs from each of the four surrounding rooms (note: 2 rooms to the northeast have Mute machines, while the other 2 rooms contain Afflictor machines… make sure the puller doesn’t go too far into the room that he/she gets Cursed/Silenced).

Once you have the key you will need to find the Treasure Coffer. Use this map to see where Coffers spawn. Once you find the Treasure Coffer, trade the Coffer Key and you will receive the Gallant Breeches.

Under Oath - PLD AF3
Helpful Information
===================

* Ahriman detects by sight and sound.
* Demons detect by sight.
* Goblins detect by sight.
* Orcs detect by sight
* You will need sneak and invisibility for both parts
* Castle Zvahl is like a mirror image, often you have a choice of going either N or S, but you eventually will get to the same place.
* In Castle Zvhal, always, always stay in the middle of the hall/road/etc. If you go to the edge and a mob sees you below or above, you will get aggro and a huge train of mobs.
* Most Orcs around the well area con as EP, EM or DC to a level 60.
* A full PT of lvl 58-60 is more than enough for the Zvhal portion (key hunting).
* You really want a full alliance (18 players) for the Davoi part.

San d’Oria
==========

You can start the quest at 50 once you must have completed AF2 (Gallant Leggings). Start out by heading to Chateau d’Oraguille and go to Prince Trion’s chambers. After the cutscene, you need to head to South San d’Oria and talk to Vemalpeau (M-7), who lives inside a small house. Once you talk to him, head on over to the Lion Spring’s Tavern and talk to Najjar. Next, head to Count Caffaule’s Manor (C-6) and talk to Ullassa. Ullassa will tell you about Mique’s Paintbrush (name will appear in purple-blue, the color for key items). Once you see the reference to the paintbrush, you are flagged and can go key hunting.

Castle Zvahl Baileys
====================

I will be referring to the maps here.

The top left map is the 1st Map, below (bottom left) is the 2nd Map and the 3rd Map is the one in the upper right corner. You are mainly interested in maps 2 and 3.

You start at J-8 on map 1. Follow the main hallway until you reach the 1st intersection at G-8. Go north at the intersection and follow the small hallway until you reach a set of stairs leading down (Note that you can go South at the intersection if you wish, you will eventually reach the 2nd Map all the same).

Go down the stairs and turn to your left (South), follow the hallway on a SW direction until you reach the tunnel that leads to the 2nd map.

You enter the 2nd map on I-8. What you want to note here are the 4 round holes located at G-6 (southern portion), H/I-6, G-9 and H/I-9.

You can follow the hallway straight to the end, and then go up the set of stairs. You will then be able to look down the NE hole (H/I-6). From here you also have access to the other holes.

-= Camp 1 =-

If you approach the edge of the hole and look down, you will notice that there are 3 ledges sticking (like platforms) and then the bottom floor. The bottom floor is populated by Demon Generals (L57-59), Demon Magistrates (L57-59) and Demon Commanders (L57-59). You do not want to drop down to the bottom floor just yet. Instead, align yourself to the ledge/platform which looks to be the highest of the 3, and drop down.

You will now be on the 3rd map, and behind you will be a small hallway that leads into one of the 4 square rooms on the 3rd map (F6, I/J-6, F-9/10, I/J-9). This is where the mobs that drop the keys are located. In the hallway you will usually find Ahriman’s (L63-65) and in the big rooms you will find Doom Demons (L64-66), Blood Demons (L64-66) and Arch Demons (64-66). All these mobs con as either T or VT to a L59 PLD.

Now, you can setup camp in the ledge/platform, just be sure not to drop down and, more importantly, to avoid being seen by any mob below or above. As an alternative, you can set camp inside the big room, in one of the corners. Usually you will find there is enough space and hopefully the mobs wont come wandering near the corner. Kill these mobs until you get your key.

-= Camp 2 =-

Starting from map 2 at the top of the hole, look down and this time you need to land on the 2nd highest platform, which will also lead you to the 3rd map, except this time you will be in the hallway which leads to the center of the map (big central square room). This hallway is usually populated by Ahrimans only (usually 2 or 3, spread out). You can set up camp close to the ledge and kill Ahrimans. In my experience the key drop rate seems to be better for Ahrimans. I got my key after the 3rd Ahriman, but your milage may vary.

If you run out of mobs, you can always move camp into one of the other holes/ledges. To do this you need to drop down to the bottom floor of the hole, and follow the hallway until you reach a set of stairs. You can’t miss them. Go up the stairs and you will be back again on the 2nd Map. Navigate to another hole, drop down and repeat.

Once you have your key, use this map to find out where the coffer chest spawns.

By now you already know how to navigate the map, so drop down accordingly into the holes until you find the chest. This part you can do solo if you have WHM subbed, or just remember to bring some oils/powders. What you mainly want to do is go around Map 3 (by using Map 2 to navigate) and check the big outer rooms, and the 4 central hallways, this is where the coffer spawns. If you are in a PT, I suggest you have a mage follow the circuit since it would be easier for he/she to recast sneak and invisibility.

San d’Oria
==========

After you obtain Mique’s Paintbrush (key item), you need to head back to South San d’Oria and talk to Vemalpeau again (M-7). He will tell you that all of his son’s belongings are still in his room upstairs. Head upstairs and investigate the painting on the wall. You will get an option to look at a strange piece of paper (letter), do so.

Once you have the letter, head to the weapon shop (K-7) and talk to Exoroche. He will tell you that you need to dip the letter on a well in Davoi to have the ink appear. At this point you are now ready to head to Davoi

Davoi
=====

A few comments before I go on. I have battled these two NM orcs a total number of 7 times (mine and other friends’ AFs). We have defeated them with as few as 9 people, but we had 2 L75 players tanking. You really want to have as many people as possible. You can do it with only 12 people (2 PTs) but you may have to use a couple of 2hrs or more. So, unless you have high level help, I really do recommend you gather 18 people. Easiest way to do this is to contact other paladins around your level range (and really, you should know them by now anyway), and coordinate the alliance with them to combine forces.

I will be referring to this map.

There are 2 key places you want to note here. The Village Well, which is located on the S-W corner of G-9, and the entrance to the Monastic Caverns at H-11. I will explain.

Head to Davoi, once in there make your way to the Village Well (G-9) by going through the S-E portion of the map. Note that level 58-59 you should be safe of aggro up until the intersection at H-10. At this point you will encounter some EP orcs to the north (where a treasure coffer spawns), and to the south (where the entrance to the Monastic Cavern is). Memorize this part of the map very well, because if the main NM battle goes wrong, what you want to do is run as fast as you can and zone into the Monastic Cavern. Especially if the tanks or damage dealers fall, have the mages zone and then come back.

The first thing you want to do is clear the area around the well from all the orcs. They con as EM or DC to a lvl 59-60 player (with the exception of the Orc Dreadnought, which is IT). Use this opportunity to get TP. Now, the are 2 relatively safe areas around the well where you can rest and regen MP. One is immediately to the south of the well, and another one to the north. In both of these ‘rest’ areas you can go up a small ledge in the wall and hopefully the orcs wont see you.

If you have a 3-PT alliance, what I suggest is the following: 1 PT will tank the paladin orc (One-Eyed Gwajbo), while the other 2 PTs will dispatch the ranger orc (Three-Eyed Prozpuz). The ranger orc hits hard, but goes down fast, whereas the paladin orc hits for less, but has a ton of HPs. If you have a 2-PT alliance, have 1 tank and 1 mage concentrate on the paladin orc, while everyone else takes care of the ranger orc.

The best way to tank the paladin orc and not lose hate is to load your TP to 300% before the fight (when you clear the area of orcs), and start with a provoke and immediately follow with a Spirits Within WS, which will do anywhere between 540-560 damage, then tank as usual.

Once you have killed the paladin Orc, a ‘well weight’ wlll drop. Trade it to the well and you will get a cutscene in which you will be able to read the contents of the letter. You are now done with Davoi.

San d’Oria, Jugner Forest, San d’Oria
=====================================

Go back to North San d’Oria and speak with Ailbeche (J-9). He will make reference to a lake in Jugner Forest, where his ‘friend’ is fishing (if you did AF2, you know who I mean). Now go to Jugner Forest and head to the Maiden’s Spring which is located in E-6 of the map. Once you approach the well, you will get a really cool cutscene in which most of the storyline from the quests will wrap up. After the cutscene, head back to San d’Oria and go to Prince Trion’s Chamber in Chateau d’Oraguille. There you will get an even cooler cutscene and the end of your AF adventures.

(Congratulations) you now have your Gallant Surcoat!
