I. Races

Before commenting on the this I must say that the only way races are a mayor issue is for MP purposes due to the importance of it in the game, with that being said:

Elvaan: Best race for warrior. Why? Best strength in game and 2nd most HP in game

Galka: Highest HP in game and 2nd best strength makes it a good choice as well if you’re only doing melee.

Hume: It’s what I use; Balanced stats everywhere. This is the job you want if you want to level other jobs instead of only Warrior.

Mithra: Low Strength, Mediocre HP. Highest Dex/Agi in game. Like I said any race works for Warrior. You don’t have to purchase a whole new account just to change your race.

TaruTaru: Lowest Strength and Hp in game, Many would think this wouldn’t work but I know several Taru warriors and they still kick ass, Warrior is that just good.

So take a pick, in the end the race won’t matter that much.

II. Roles

What does a warrior do for parties?

Warrior is invited for multiple roles :
a) Melee
b) Tank
c) Support Tank / SATA partner

Roles

A As a melee you go through the following procedure:

1. Use multiple macros to swap in gear for TP gaining and weapon skill. Accuracy and Attack for TP gain, and ALOT of strength for weapon skills.
2. Equip yourself with the best equipment, from your weapon to your belt.
3. Come prepared with food, ninja tools, and macro swapping equipment.
4. Use your abilities in conjunction with each other to maximize damage (Berserk, Aggressor, etc….
5. If needed, know when to hold back on hate when doing alot of damage.
6. Choose from either Sushi or Meat foods.

B As a tank you go through the following procedure, note, more tanking covered under end game section:

1. Use macros to swap around enmity, vitality, defense and even haste equipment.
2. Either use damage and one of the melee foods listed above, or focus stictly on defense by eating fish like Steamed Crab of a Fishkabob.
3. If you’re using damage to keep hate, try not to use defender unless it is a last resort.
4. Keep an eye on your provoke timer, and use warcry if hate begins to become shakey.
5. If subbing ninja, keep an eye on shadows, and perfect your casting.
6. When subbing monk use boost at every possible moment to keep hate.

C As a support tank / SATA partner you will go through the following procedure:

1. Provoke the mob so the main tank and thief can setup.
2. Use your melee damage to keep the monsters attention, try NOT to resort to defender.
3. Preferrably sub ninja, since you’re only tanking for a short while hate won’t be a problem and you shouldn’t get hit.
4. Use warcry to help boost the thief’s WS damage.

III. Summary through levels

1~29

At first, warrior acts like pretty much every melee, undefinded, and just soloing their way to the valkrum dunes. Subbing monk the preffered choice. In the dunes you should try to keep up to date with the latest armor since you and probably another melee will be the tanks of the party. Your damage isn’t amazing but it isn’t terrible. In the later levels , with berserk, you will slightly gain an edge against other melee and become mroe defined as a fighter, but still serve as a tank well. At level 24, ninja sub becomes viable since you can now use utsusemi, but doesn’t really become useful until 30+ since the mobs at that level use double attack moves (Mandragora). You probably will be fine using monk subjob the first 30 levels of warrior.

30~59

At level 30 another sub becomes viable and that sub is thief. The main use of this subjob is for damage, using sneak attack in conjunction with a weaponskill like sturmwind can be devastating. 30+ warriors can still tank, with either ninja or monk sub, but the more levels you gain, the less likely you are to be invited to tank. At level 50 ninja sub shines, because now it will be enhanced with Dual-Wield II making you hit faster, do more damage, and hopefully hold hate better. Also at this level you can offhand weapons like viking axe to pump or stats you are weak in, or axes are very thin at this level you could offhand a good sword. At 55 you get the best weaponskill for axe, rampage. With the right combination of strength and accuracy, the damage can be quite mind boggling. At this point are pretty much meleeing in all your parties, but two warrior/ninjas make quite the pair since they can tank while keeping up incredible damage. At level 59 you are able to equip the haubergeon which I HIGHLY suggest you stop and equip, this piece is essential to warrior and you WILL be considered gimp without it. You should be able to make decent gil farming.

60~75

At level 60 you should have your full AF which adds +15 enemity. This is HUGE for tanking later on and really brings warrior back into the tanking game. At level 60 you get one of great axes strongest weaponskills, raging rush which you will want to have when you face the old man. 60+ I found myself going back and forth between ninja and thief depending on what the party wanted. Either a SATA partner that does big rampage damage with /nin, or sneak attack + trick attack onto say a ninja tank who might need a little help holding hate. After 60 a whole new shelve of versatility opens up for warrior. On the push to 75 more expensive gear will come your war, just make sure to take time out and farm for it. At level 70, maat shouldn’t be too hard of a task and if you need help refer to the warrior FAQ. Once you reach level 75, the game just really begins and a whole new world of things open up to you.

V. Weapons Scenarios

Warrior is great with pretty much alot of weapons. But here are the 4 you’ll want to have leveled up.

Great Axe Rating: A+ (276)

Best Scenario: Can be used in conjunction with subbing thief. With this maat fight is alot easier and in the end game, making darkness with Steel Cyclone is an orgasmic experience.

With great axe you can pull out large weapon skill damage when subbed in conjunction with thief. SA + Surmwind, SA + Raging Rush, SA + Steel Cyclone all produce large results in damage. Not only does it process big damage, Gaxes have high DMG and a delay from around 504-529. The negative with Gaxe is TP gain can be slow at times, but with the recent update we have given a boost in TP per hit

The Breakers

Shield Break = Ice
Armor Break = Wind
Weapon Break = Water
Full Break = Earth

100% TP = 3 minutes
200% TP = 4 minutes
300% TP = 5 minutes

There are 3 scenarios when a Break WS is performed – Full effect, Half resist, total resist.

1) Total Resist – usually when the enemy is strong against the element of the Break WS itself. For example: Using Shield Break vs Skeleton enemies (they have high resist vs Ice). That means there will be no evade down for the enemy.

2) Half Resist – usually when the enemy has no weakness/strength against the Break WS. This means the time interval of which the Break is valid is halved. For example, Shield Break, if not half resisted, has around a 3 minute window of which evade down is in effect, but if half resist, it only is in effect for 1 minute and a half.

3) Full effect – usually when the enemy has an weakness to the Break WS. For example, Shield Break vs Crawlers. It has full effect in that 3 minutes

Defining weaponskills: Sturmwind, Raging Rush , Steel Cyclone

Axe Rating: A- (269)

Best Scenario: Goes hand in hand with ninja. Whore yourself out to make light with mistral axe/decimation, rediculous rampage damage and perfect for merit parties.

Dual-Wielding axes at 55 is what makes /nin so powerful. At level 55 it gets one of the best weaponskills for it levels and beyond, rampage which pretty much makes /nin sub work so well. As for using this with /thf, you won’t find the same great damage, but i’ve seen plenty of nice SA + 300% Calamitys. Mistral Axe is a fun toy as well.

Defining weaponskills: Raging Axe, Rampage , Mistral Axe/Decimation

Sword Rating: B (250)

Best Scenario: Offhanding with ninja sub.

The 1h sword is very useful in the 50s because there are a shortage of axes. So, a solution to this problem is buying a sword such as the bloodsword or Tactician Magican Espadon (+12 Attack). Also, at higher levels, swords are given some amazing traits, notably extra hit procs. An example is the sword Joyeuse, with the effect of occasionally swining twice with a 50% proc rate. Not to mention there is also the Dissector, Company sword, and Ridill to look forward to. Sword like Ridill and Joyeuse make big gaps between regualr Axe/Axe warriors. Also, you will be needed to have this sword at 175+ skill to use spirits within on NMs where regular meleeing is pointless.

Defining weaponskills: Spirits Within , Vorpal Blade

Great Sword Rating: B+ (256)

Best Scenario: HNM for light skillchains.

Greatsword only has one reason to be leveled really, making light. Although Great axe is warriors highest rated weapon, sadly, it lacks the ability to make light. Thats where this baby comes in, with the weaponskill groundstrike combined with Sneak Attack, not only will you make light, but pull some very nice damage doing it as well.

Defining weaponskills: Ground Strike

Ranged Slot

There are some people who aren’t sure what to put in their ranged slot so here are some suggestions.

Throwing

Boomerangs – In the early levels slap these on to save your money instead of buying arrows. WARs may be used for pulling so just be prepared. At level 55, there is the combat casters boomerang +1, which adds +4 ACC and +4 RACC in areas outside of your nations control. This Boomerang is a definite buy for EXP and is very useful.

Throwing Ammo – No reason to buy any throwing ammo really if you have a boomerang or a crossbow. Only until the 50s you get some good options. You have the Goblin Grenade, with +1 STR. Not really noticeable but its something. At 58 you can nab the Tiphia Sting if you can pay for it, really good stats for a throwing weapon. But at 63, you will definately want to pick up the Bomb Core. +12 Attack just isn’t something to pass up. Make sure to disable your throwing macro, there is nothing worse than tossing a brand new bomb core at a clipper. A new item just released in the expansion pack is the Bibiki Seashell, with its +4 VIT, is a great item for tanking and steel cyclone.

Archery – Not much here. Only bow worth mentioning is the Lightning Bow. +2 DEX is better than nothing I guess.

Marksmanship – Marksmanship is a big bonus to level for warrior. Excellent for soloing, and excellent for ballista. Why? Because of the status bolts. Sleep, HP drain, defense down and a few others are the real reasons to level this. If you can, pick up a Velocity Bow. The low delay will help get off your status effects quicker.

VI. Subjobs

Warrior is really flexible, but it all depends on what subjob you choose.

Monk

Monk as a subjob has very little lifespan. For the first thirty levels it is hands down the best subjob for a warrior. But after that THF and NIN excel in areas where it used to. At 50+ I have seen people sub it for the extra Focus accuracy and instead of sushi use meat and come out with great damage results, but it really isn’t practical.

Thief

Thief if one of subs that power warrior in the end game as well as exp. It can do large spurts of damage when it wants to, and at 60+ passing hate is a very nice addition. For farming TH1 is noticeable for me atleast and I bring it where I go camping NMs. At higher levels , 300% TP + SA + Steel Cyclone/Ground Strike is the main reason to sub this. A great subjob every warrior should have leveled, but is often neglected.

Samurai

Practically useless before 60+ Meditate is the main reason this sub is worth using. 60% TP every 3:00 minutes can really add up, also handles itself pretty well in ballista. Third Eye when you are able to predict can be a real life saver. Also very nice for HNM on mobs warrior can’t melee on.

Ninja

WAR/NIN is THE subjob, as sad as it is, you can go 1-75 with this subjob and not many people would give a damn. This sub is the most well rounded for damage, tanking, and overall survivability. Utsusemi for tanking. Tonko is very useful for getting around and shadows are really helpful in ballista. But the main reason people sub this is because of the dual-wielding aspect. In your main hand you can place a axe with alot of power and off hand another axe or sword with stats to buffer and support with usually lower delay or damage. With the right combination, you can top charts on the parse. At higher levels, the weapon selection is amazing and your offhand can have weapons with multiple hit proc and more. A WAR nin with a nice balance of attack, accuracy and haste is tough to top, and if you get a hand on a multi-proc weapon, you’ll be able to surpase plenty of other players. This subjob works in dynamis too, in keeping you alive and is preferred in merit parties which can sometimes tend to have lack of mage support. With this sub 74+ your soloing abilities are increased and can serve as a great tank end game.

Dragoon

This subjob works best in either as a beginning warrior, or as an endgame warrior. At the lower levels this sub will give you a boost on TP as well as damage with jump ability, and provides and accuracy bonus while you’re eating meat. End game though, this thing is a monster. You’re able to gain the same amount of TP as a /SAM does in 3 minutes. 2 jumps and 1 high jump (probably even more with barone on) wil land you 60%+ TP! Not only that, you’ve still got the accuracy bonus, so it provides slight leeway in equipment. So already you’ve got fast TP gain, but the haste+ possibilities are incredible. With DRG sub you get +5% haste from the Wyvern earring, and if you have a refresher, equipping a rune axe will add you an addition +9% haste. Couple that with a swift/speed belt, byakko’s haidate, some dusk equipment and you’ll be seeing a nice improvement in attack speed, hopefully helping great axes slightly pitiful TP gain (in comparison to WAR/NIN). One of the best things about Great Axe is this though, when you do jumps, you are able to PROC double attack on the jump, for even more TP and damage. A WAR/DRG with a ridill is possibly the strongest combination. Imagine triple proccing on both your high jump and jump, and imagine how fast you’ll be attacking with that extra 5% haste from the wyvern earring. This sub may seem wierd or unfamiliar to others, but in fact it is undeniably a contender with WAR/NIN. It may not be as practical, but if you can afford/work for it, can be just as good.

VII. Job Abilities

Mighty Strikes: Every hit is a critical attack for the ability’s duration.
Provoke: Taunts an enemy into attacking you.
Berserk: Enhances attacks but weakens defense.
Defender: Enhances defense but weakens attacks.
Warcry: Enhances attacks of party members within area of effect.
Aggressor: Enhances accuracy but impairs evasion.

–Job Traits–

Defense Bonus: Improves defense against physical attacks.
Resist Virus: Gives you a slight resistance against diseases.
Double Attack: Small chance of attacking the target twice in a single attack.
Physical Attack Bonus: Increases physical attack damage.

*For WAR/DRG, the only changes to equip are : Wyvern Earring for TP gain, and replace Suppanomimi with any other Earring.

Tanking

Endgame, with good support and people to back you up, warrior is able to tank anything. Here are some subjobs and how to equipyourself for the role.

*Information provided by the following people : Berdysh, Nny, Dazd, Vandervecken, if I missed someone, please PM me.
More information on tanking can be found here: http://ffxi.killvoid.com/forums.php…ts&a…=121909&d=0

Equipment

This is a nice check-offlist to help you tank.

[ ] Haste Gear Set
[ ] Enmity Gear Set
[ ] HP Gear Set
[ ] DD Gear Set
[ ] DEF Gear Set (Most of the time this is the same as the HP gear set.)

WAR/NIN

Body-AF1/Kirins Osode
Hands-AF2/Dusk Gloves/Koenig Hands
Head-Genbu’s Kabuto/Walahra Turban
Ammo-Rosenbogen/Bibiki Seashell/Fenrirs Stone/anything that gives hp/vit
Neck-Harmonia’s Torque/Iron Musketerrs Gorget
Earrings-Pigeon Earring(+1)/Bloodbead Earring
Rings-BQ ring/Jelly Ring/Vit rings
Back-High Breathe Mantle
Belt-Warwolf Belt/Speed Belt
Legs-Byakko’s Haidate/Barone Cosciales/AF2
Feet-AF1/Unicorn Leggings/Dusk Ledelsans/Suzakue’s Sune-Ate
Food- Dorado Sushi
Weapons- E. Staff/Koenig Shield/Macahuital+1

Use anything from that list that you have and make macro’s to swap in enmity gear for vokes/warcries. If you have the space carry around full AF1 set to macro in the pieces that give more enmity over other gear from certain slots. With all that you can get a total of 40-50 enmity and you’ll rarely if ever lose hate. This is a total defensive set up so you can change alot of that out for pure DD gear depending on the mob you’re tanking and whenever you feel comfortable enough doing so.

IX. Frequently Asked Questions

Lets put a comedic priority on this question, the rest will be classified by certain categories.

Q: What effect does Tungi have?
A: None, Tungi is a WYSIWYG weapon. Meaning all you get from it is 41Dmg and 260Delay.
This is a pretty nice offhand weapon. What you may have heard is that it would
increase your double attack rate, this infact is false. Recent threads have the
added mention of Tungi gloves and Life belt gloves to contribute to the humour
of this question comming up all the time. The Tribunus NM is quite easy to deal
with at L75.

==Money==

Q: How can you afford Haubergeon at Level 59?
A: Haubergeon will not make or break your warrior. At Level 60ish Ryl.Kgt.Chainmail is still
a pretty good filler until you can manage enough currency to buy it. Assault Jerkin can
work well also, it provides more att. And there’s never anything wrong with Byrnie either,
although on some servers at times it will be more expensive than a haubergeon. A player’s
skill determines how he can exploit his gear not the other way around. With that said though,
there’s always room for optimisation.
Tips: Quests (Teleport quests, Brown Belt, Warp 2, etc)
BCNM
Using up that ‘useless’ conquest point system
Farming.

Q: What BCNM/ENMs are Warrior friendly?
A*: Alot of them are warrior friendly. Your role in them will be DD most of the time.
Be creative and don’t always follow the trend. I have done War War Whm for the
BCNM60 called Celery. I have yet to try it but, apparently Like The Wind is a War
friendly ENM as well, and it just so happens to drop Maneater.

==Gear==

Q: What Weapons types should I be using?
A: Warrior can wield alot of weapons. Most of you are always tempted to examine a L75 war
early on when you start up the job and decide to sub Ninja and dual wield axes. This isin’t
exactly the best case at all levels. At L50 a War/Nin will gain the dual wield II ability
granting it a bonus with -delay when dual wielding single handed weapons. Before L50 most
Warriors will suggest that you use a great axe. Those two previously mentioned weapons types
are in fact the ones that Warriors have a higher skill cap with. This doesn’t mean you should
ignore all other weapon types though, it’s very practical to level Sword and other weapons.
This mentioned Axe being viable at L50, but you may want to hold out until L55, when you get
Rampage.

Q: How does the Latent work on the Unicorn set?
A: From all the posts I have read it seems to be variant. The effect is on if you are
over a certain percentage of HP. This means it will be on a large amount of time unless you
are constantly below this said HP%. (As far as I know it’s between 65% and 75%)

Q: How do I activate Rune Chopper’s latent?
A*: All Rune weapons use MP to activate the latent when you are engaged. The MP/Tick cost for
the Rune Chopper is 3MP/Tick. The Rdm spell Refresh covers the MP loss and will continue to
activate the latent if you have 0MP (provided you do have some MP ex:0/10MP).

Q: How do I activate the latent on those Rare/Ex Weapons from those KS30?
A: Much like trial weapons you need to earn points on these to remove the latent effect.
These latents will be removed at 500Points.

Q: How does Maneater work, why do so many wars like it?
A: This Axe is obtained from uncapped enms. The Latent on the item itself is written as:
49DMG, but 2 other traits were not indicated: +18att and +5acc. You instantly see the
+18 attack bonus once you equip the axe. The conditions that need to be met for the
latent to kick off are having less than 100TP or using a weapons skill. This axe is
great for spam parties. It’s use for holding TP up to 300 is not as great though since
the latent will be inactive for 200TP.

Q: How do Martial Weapons work and why would I want them?
A: Martial weapons have a trait called ‘TP Bonus’ on them. What does this mean? It simply
provides you with 100TP more when you use a Weapon Skill. When would this be useful?
In circumstances where you want to use a Weapon skill at 300TP, you will only need to
get 200TP, a considerable time saver. Since you will use Steel Cyclone at 300TP, Spirits
Within or Ground Strike on HNM and the likes, you may want to aquire these weapons. Some
will also ingnore the 300TP use for the maximum output and use the Weapon Skills at 100TP
This allows you to use Weapon Skills more frequently.

Q: What Belts should I be wearing at which levels?
A: There’s so many things to wear around your waist. Here’s a list:
-Warrior’s Belt+1 (pitch in for the HQ it’s worth it)
-Brave belt (good for WS)
-Sarashi (this is a don’t the enhancement is very minimal)
-Tilt Belt (for L40 cap I like to bring this guy along)
-Haste Belt (Stacks with the Spell)
-Swordbelt+1 (pitch in for the HQ and use it when you know you don’t need more acc)
-Vanguard Belt (a good WS belt)
-Lifebelt (this belt will fix you’re need for acc for a while, keep it)
-Swift Belt (it’s you’re very own free quasi-speed belt)
-Speed Belt (do not recraft this, you’ll be crying on break)
-Warrior’s Stone (the new Dynamis AF, it’s nice)
-Warwolf Belt (a nice WS and Tanking belt)
-Ninurta’s Sash (where are you?)
I may have left a few out, PM me if you think there’s other notables.

Q: What should I be wearing on my body?
A: From early on up until you are at your end levels, you should concentrate on armour with
good defense and stats that improve your Defense (Vit/Agi/HP/Def/Eva/Enmity) or your Offense
(Str/Dex/Att/Acc). Sometimes this isin’t always available due to the limited armour you’re
allowed to wear but generally, there’s always different armour out there for different
purposes.

Q: What should I be wearing on my head?
A: There’s not much choice here at low levels, dissapointing no?
It’s always practical to have multiple helms for different cases, much like what was said
for the body armour. It’s practical to have things like, empress hairpin you can use this
on your subs you’ll be leveling or have leveled. There are two pricey masks out there that
provide attack as well around the L40 range I believe. (Walkure and Valkyrie) During the
late levels other things come at your disposal, the Celata/Optical Hat/Unicorn Cap/Hecatomb
Cap/Adaman Celata. With this choice, you can bring many along and switch to fill the need.

Q: What should I be putting on my hands?
A: Anything with Acc, Str or Att. Early on you should concentrate on Acc, since most gloves
you can get do not allow you to get Att or Str. Later on you should try and keep more than
one pair handy… handy… Yeah. For instance, having Dusk Gloves for a haste setup while
you gain TP and then using a macro or just swapping it yourself to switch over to Att or
Str for your WS. The more Str or Att the better.

Q: What axes should I be using when and why?
A: Early levels (I don’t suggest the use of these nor would most other Warrior)
-Battleaxe
-Tigerhunter
-Military Pick
-Warrior’s Axe
-Combat Caster’s Axe
-Razor Axe

Mid Levels (Mid levels is when Axe starts to shine, take these babies out)
-Viking :
Viking axes will grant a large amount of accuracy and take away alot of evasion too. When
you lack accuracy it’s nice to offhand as well. Due to it’s low damage, you will not want
to keep it as your mainhand or even offhand weapon for long.

-Tungi :
This is a very nice axe to have off hand due to it’s low delay and decent damage. You will
want to keep your Darksteel Axe+1 or Fransisca as your mainhand if you chose to use this axe.
You obtain this axe by popping an antican nm using an antican tag.
View the first topic on this FAQ for more info on this axe.

-Darksteel Axe :
This is a nice axe to have, it has high damage. I would suggest you get the HQ version on it
since like all HQ, it lowers delay and increases the damage just a tad.

-Fransisca

-Acha d’Armas :
Hurray an axe with +Str! Awesome! I used this axe Main hand until L71 where I purchased
Tabarzin. This axe is dropped off a nm in Kuftal Tunnel. It has a fairly bad drop rate.
Keep at it.

End Levels (Any combination of these axes are valid)
At end levels you have a few axes to pick from, the most usual decisions are the following:

-Juggernaut : 46Dmg 288Delay HP+18 +3Str -3Agi +30att
Quite often this axe is the highest price, if you can aquire it from your LS, go for it.
The 3Str and 30att are definatly a nice thing to get for HNM and WS Spam.

-Tabarzin (+1) : 49Dmg 288Delay HP+10 +2Dex +2Vit
This is a crafted item, often the cheapest costing. Alot more common than any other axes.
Good to keep as main hand due to it’s 49Dmg. (HQ is very rare and will cost alot)

-Woodville’s Axe : 50Dmg 288Delay +4Str -5% Spell interruption
Obtained from KS30, if you get this axe it’s a great main hand weapon due to it’s 50Dmg.
It also has the highest amount of Str equipable on one axe that War can use. The spell
interruption will not really be the decisive factor since it’s almost non existant.

-Maneater : 43Dmg 276Delay Latent Effect: Damage 49 (+18att +5acc)
As mentioned previously in this FAQ, the maneater is one special axe. In my opinion all
warriors should aquire this item, It’s quite fun to have in Merit Parties since all you
do is Spam.

Q: Which Great Axes should I be using When?
A: Early Levels
-Neckchopper
-Centurion’s Axe
-Twicer
-Horror Voulge
-Huge Moth Axe

Mid Levels
-Gigant Axe : L49 GA, it gives you Str. You can get it about the same level
you’ll be exping in Crawlers Nest. I got my key and Axe in one Exp party there one evening.

-Schwarz Axt : Great weapons for Level cap. I liked the damage and acc at the
time, but other axes were introduced with similar damage.

-Forseti’s Axe
-Heavy Darksteel Axe : High amount of damage, nothing else.
-Demon’s Axe : This was my favorite, it’s comparable to Colossal, great Str.
-Colossal Axe : Massive amounts of Str, good for Raging Rush.
-Pendragon Axe : It’s free and the NM is almost always up. Rather easy to Kill too, get your ZM groups to kill it while passing through.

End Levels
-Rune Chopper : See special topic
-Bhuj : It’s a nice crafted GA. You get +Vit for your WS off of this.
-Berserker’s Axe : 95 damage at a low level, this axe will provide alot of damage
but nothing else. It’s still very nice to get if you can aquire it.

-Gawain’s Axe : Quite often a Favorite for a 300TP Steel Cyclone
-Martial Bhuj : WS Spam (also has a special Topic)
-Toporok : Much like Bhuj only better

-Byakko’s Axe : 94Dmg 504Delay +10vs.Wind +5Att Enhances Beast Killer Effect
Additional Effect: Wind Damage. This is a wonderful Great Axe, it’s free and has high
damage. That beast killer effect will intimidate the following mobs: Rabbit, Sheep, Ram
Dhalmel, Tiger, Opo-Opo, Coeurl, Manticore, Behemoth, Buffalo. This means that while
weilding this great axe and having hate on these creatures, you may end up intimidating
them.

Q: I am using X Sword, how can I improve my overall damage/accuracy?
A: You will want to invest in the following things to improve your damage using swords:
Suppanomimi, Fortitude Torque and Sword Skill merits. This will raise the
Sword Skill up alot and allow you to get a good amount of accuracy and attack.
If you do in fact get Ridill and Joyeuse and decide to use both of these, you probably
shouldn’t put too many merits in double attack (if any), and concentrate on lowering
Berserk and Aggressor. You can decrease the amount of time with these abilities off to
1M10sec. If you are in the L70+ range, then accuracy and attack are you best bet. At
lower level the skill difference isin’t as huge as when you’re L75 so you will not always
notice much of a difference between axe and sword. Also, in the higher levels the WS you
will want to be using for overall damage in a spam party is Vorpal Blade, not Savage Blade.

Q: When should I be using bloodsword?
A*: …

Q: I read somewhere that company sword has an effect on it. What is Company Sword’s hidden effect?
A: It looks like a plain sword. It has 46Dmg written on the description. It’s hidden effect is that
it gives +2Dmg for each additional member in party. This means you get 56Dmg in a full party.
It could make an interesting sword to main hand for vorpal blade. Generally people don’t suggest
it’s use on these forums.

Q: What about Great swords? Warriors can use those!
A: Yes, this is a fact. Warrior can use alot of armor and weapons. We can’t use guns, since day
one I’ve been crying over this, would have looked bad ass to say the least. Back on topic
now, Great Swords are pretty good, nice damage, good weapon skills like Spinning slash and
others like this. What’s wrong with great sword? For one, warrior has a very limited choice
of Great Swords to pick from, and we do not get spinning slash and are forced to wait for
ground strike. We are given a break at end level it seems. We do get to use Martial Sword,
alot of those nifty Rare/Ex ones too… heck we can even get the Relic Great Sword. Level it
up anyways, Ground Strike is a very versatile Weapon Skill to get/use. As a Warrior in an
HNMLS, it’s nice to give your group a reason to make use of you for all kinds of things.

Q: What should I have in my Ranged/Ammo Spot?
A: Most people you will check will most likely have something along the lines of a Combat
Caster’s boomerang or Bomb Core, one of these will only be active some of the time and
the other you will most likely end up chucking at something at least once and losing alot
of gil in the process. There are many alternatives out there, a crossbow is a practical thing
to use and have skilled up. You may not end up having excellent accuracy with it, but you
won’t be using it to damage. Bolts have alot of effects that are worth using, acid bolts,
blood bolts and acid bolts mostly. Acid bolts will improve the damage of everyone’s melee
attacks and weapon skills. The two other bolts I mentioned can be useful to solo/avoid
certain sticky situations. Sleep bolts won’t sleep your target very long, why bother? Any
delay can help. The good thing about sleep bolts is that by using these you can deny a mob
from using a potentially bad magic spell. (Sleep interupts) While everyone is struggling for
stun or silence you have prevented something that could have meant a disaster. Pat yourself on
the back.

Q: I did Divine Might but I don’t know what to pick? (2006/02/16)
A: There are 3 earrings you might be interested in getting from the quest called Divine Might.
Bushinomimi: +2Str, Great Katana Skill +5 and Parrying Skill +5
Suppanomimi: +2Agi, Enhances Dual Wield Effect, Sword Skill +5
Beastly Earring: +2Chr, Evasion +5, Axe Skill +5
All of these can serve a purpose, since you can only pick one, you have to pick something that you won’t
look back on. Most people suggest Suppanomimi, the two biggest arguments are that you cannot obtain
the dual wield enhancement elsewhere (rumored to reduce the delay by 5%) and the sword skill is a plus
for either Joyeuse or Ridill. Bushinomimi gives you +2Str (which you can get an equal amount from purchasing
a triumph earring) and parrying skill. Beastly provides with axe skill and evasion, these could be tempting
at times as well. Chose wisely, you only get one chance at this.

Q: I don’t know what to do about acc rings. Any advice? (2006/03/14)
A: Venerer, Snipers, Woodsman, Jaegers, etc. Sure are tricky things aren’t they? When should you use
them and when should you be using something else like Str rings for instance? Unfortunatly for this
situation all I can offer is my opinion. In an Exp situation when you want to gain TP, Str rings
will improve your overall DoT when you can guarantee a hit. However, in a situation where you
would rather ensure that you’re hitting the mob rather than providing a higher damage output per
hit, I suggest you aim for the acc rings. Should you ever get rid of these rings entirely? No.
There will always be a circumstance where you cannot guarantee an excellent hit/miss ration when
dealing with Exp or Hnm.

I’m not too sure my previous sentences actually clarified much or had proper structure. But what
I’m trying to explain is that most of the time you do need these Acc rings. The rest of the time
which will pretty much be when you’re exping/meriting on VT or using your macro for your SATA gear
(at which point you should replace all acc gear for Str and Att if you can) you should rather use
Str rings, or att ones.

Q: Have you seen this High breath mantle? (2006/04/16)
A: Yes I have, wonderful isin’t it? 50 charges of goodness, easy to craft. You can verify the stats at the following
website: http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/8049
Now that you’ve had a look, think back. For those of you that are already past the L50 range. Having this much
enmity at those levels is ridiculous and guess what there’s HP to boot. I’m quite fond of this piece. It provides
half the HP of a gigant mantle almost. It’s useful all the way to L75 honestly, given the circumstances.

==Merits==

Q: I’m about to get my L75, how does the merit system work? (or just curious)
A: It’s not too complicated, after getting L75 you simply need to talk to an npc moogle next to
maat and he’ll activate this mode for you. If you don’t switch over, once you cap out your exp
at L75 you will be switched over. From that point on you will be gaining Limit Points instead of
experiance points. 10 000 Limit Points = 1 Merit Point. There are many categories containing many
traits you can spend these merit points in. Please view the link I have to read up on the details.
URL: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Merit_Points

Q: How should I be spending my Merit Points?
A: However you wish. It is a wise decision to optimise anything that will render you better with what
you have. For example, in Combat Skills you can spend merit points on evasion skill, with the gear
you most likely are using however, this is not the best decision. If you are a sword user, you should
be improving your Sword Skill, since the skill level by default for a warrior L75 is considerably
lower than that of his Axe or GA. If you are exclusively using multihit weapons (Joyeuse, Ridill) then
adding merits to Double Attack is not a priority, you would rather want to decrease the berserk and
aggressor timers to have the job abilities on more often than not.

Q: Is there an order I should be spending my points in?
A*: Yes, your HP/MP and Str should not be at the top of your to do list. Why is this? With your priorities
set on Str, by the time you gain you very first Str merit, you could have already spent 3 merit points
on other things, for example, 1 point on improving crit. rate, one on a weapon skill and one on a job
specific trait. As you can see Attributes is on of the merit sections that costs the most. The increment
for one trait goes like this: 3 > 6 > 9 > 9 > 9 (for a total of 36merits or 360 000 limit points). The
best way to go about it is by improving your merit sections evenly, once they have all reached the same
cost to upgrade move to another section. Try and proceed by improving the most for a lesser cost in merit
points. This way you notice a greater improvement faster.

==Misc==

Q: How do I go about Maat fight?
A: With this simple method:
1- equip opo-opo necklace, equip and use a Blink band too.
2- sleep to 300% (I believe that you get 25% per sleep potion, mary’s milk will sleep you longer)
3- once you have 300TP walk up to him and use every offensive Job ability (Berserk, Aggressor, Warcry)
4- switch that necklace back to something else (spiked, ryl.grd, charm…) same goes for the head
5- Raging Rush
6- /item ‘Icarus Wing’
7- Raging Rush
8- Fragmentation, if he isin’t admiting his defeat yet… brace for impact. (that’s what blink is for)
You may be saying, but I never ever leveled Great Axe or stopped using it at L55! Well now’s your chance
to skill it up. I highly suggest it. If not, the same method can work with Rampage but there won’t be any
Skill Chain.

Q: What Trait/Stat modifies X Job ability? -edited on the 21st of june 2006… more to come-
A: There are 5 Warrior Job abilities: Provoke, Berserk, Defender, Warcry and Aggressor. You may have
Read certain things about either Chr making Provoke stronger or Int making Warcry better well
these statements are false. Job abilities are improved in the following ways: Provoke > Enmity,
Berserk > Attack, Defender > Defense, Warcry > (14 + ((War level – 35)/5)) and Aggressor as far as
I know it just provides a base amount of Accuracy (+25 is what people assume). The Chr trait will
only make the hate deteriorate at a slower speed. Both Berserk and Defender will provide a 25%
increase of their respective stat and a 25% decrease of the opposing stat. The Relic gear that
enhaces these Job abilities (with the exception of warcry) only decrease the amount of defense or
attack lost by using either berserk or defender, they will not provide a higher increase. The
Enhance Warcry will increase the duration period of warcry.

There was a rumor spread previously, unfounded, that AGI would modify the proc rate of Double
Attack. The reasoning was that there’s Agi on the boots and that SE was trying to imply that this
was a modifier for this trait. The same thing happened with Warcry. Both of these rumors are false.
The only way to improve double attack is to get gear or merits to compliment warrior’s passive trait.

Q: What stats do I need to boost, to improve the performance of X weapon skill?
A: As someone previously mentioned in this section… … previously. Damage Modifiers are
what people state to explain something they don’t understand (probably messed it up alot).
What this means is that none of it is set in rock. These formulas circulation on the internet
aren’t really confirmed as far as I know. I do, however have a usefull link I use to look up
weapon skill levels and such, which I am guilty of refering to as well to check up on the
damage modifiers. Also I believe Khalea’s signature has the WS formula as well.
URL: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index….y:Weapon_Skills

Q: How do trial weapons work? Which ones should I get?
A*: A Trial weapon is obtained when you have opened a quest for your final weapon skill (excluding
relic) around 240 to 250 skill level. You need to aquire roughly 300point while using this
weapon by doing weapons skills. You will gain more points by closing the skill chain. The amount
of points works like this:

Solo WS = 1 point
Lv1 SC = 2 points
Lv2 SC = 3 points (Gravitation, Fragmentation, Distortion, Fusion)
Lv3 SC = 5 points (Light/Darkness)

As a warrior many of these quest are available. You will have alot of weapon skills to pick from.
My suggestion, start with steel cyclone. Here are the trial weapons available for warrior:
Great Axe, Club, Dagger, Axe, Staff, Sword, Scythe, Polearm and Great Sword (9 Total)
URL: http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/7202

Q: What foods should I use at what level and during what circumstances?
A*: You may notice there’s alot of food at your disposal, which should you be picking?
Until you have a considerable amount of base accuracy, you will notice that Sole Sushi is
not the best alternative. You will most likely notice more of an impact around L45 to 50.
Why is this food so popular? It increases your accuracy by a percentage (15%) it also
provides 5 extra dex and str. What food should I use until then? I’ve seen someone on this
board suggest Rice Dumplings alot, this food provides str, vit, agi, att and acc. (among
other things) all of which you’re looking for as a warrior. What about defense food while
I’m tanking? I believe this could be a viable option too depending on the circumstances.
Naturaly if you’re nowhere near the cap of a certain trait you should not be spending
excessive amounts of money on a specific type of food. For example during low levels Meat
Jerky would possibly be a good choice seeing as foods like navarin will almost never see
it’s full life span. Other foods that will catch your eyes are Meat Mithkabobs, Yellow curry,
Red Curry, Hedgehog Pie, Coeurl sub and Bison steak…
(Tentacle Sushi has been said to have a low cap for accuracy)

Q: What methods of tanking are at my disposal?
A*: First and foremost, Provoke. This is your first job ability and one you should be using quite
often as main tank, backup tank or even just a DD trying to save your mages life. There are
plenty of ways to tank, quite often relying on your subjob. At Early levels you will most likely
be War/Mnk. When tanking with this job setup boost is your best friend (right after provoke).
Get a Cache-nez and those two job abilities at low level should keep the hate on you. You Should
be using Great Axe as soon as possible and keeping it as you main weapon, the amount of damage you
get from it will help you create or keep hate. Another method of tanking on a warrior at early
levels is to buddy up with another war or nin and tank use utsusemi to bounce tank, you must keep
track of your shadows and his. This way you can work with 2 players and 6 shadows at early levels
instead of just one with 3. You may be asked to backup tank on occaisions too, at this point you
want to be going all out and throwing the occaisional provoke when you see your main tank getting
hit a little too much. If you have berserk on and know you will get hit a few times, throw up
defender to cancel the defense loss from berserk and take it off once you aren’t tanking anymore,
this way you won’t lose berserk (5 minute delay) and defender will most likely be ready for use
next time something like this happens (2 minute delay). Using job abilities to create hate isin’t
such a bad idea either. It is possible to tank with other subjobs than Mnk and Nin also. Though
quite unconventional. Some people tank with /Whm /Pld and /Thf.

Q: Elements of the G.axe break weaponskills, what to use them on, what not to? (2006/02/12)
A*: Shield Break element: Ice
Armour Break element: Wind
Weapon Break element: Water
Full Break element: Earth

Basically look up whichever mob you’re fighting’s elemental weakness and exploit it.
There’s a partial list of the mobs on the following website(1). You can refer to
elements weaknesses here(2).

Q: I hear that mistral axe is a ranged Weapon skill. What does this mean? (2006/03/14)
A: That you do not have to be directly next to the mob in order to use this weapon skill.
Even though this weapon skill allows a farther proximity from the mobs when using it there is
nothing else special about it. It does not take your Ranged Accuracy or Distance from the mob
into factor while you’re using it. Here’s an insteresting fact about it though SATA does work
on this WS. You will be using it for a few levels in order to open light probably. You may not
find it too impressive. I personally use it in Dynamis for instance though. It’s alot friendlier
to use in that situation than other weapons skill when the monster decides to go running after
someone else.

Q: I’d like advice on what to skill up and where. Can you give me any pointers? (2006/03/14)
A: For any weapon type you will skill up, the optimal one will always be one that multi-hits or has
a high amount of acc in cases where this isin’t probably. As a Warrior there’s two weapons you
should consider skilling first off. That’s obviously the Axe and Great Axe. This doesn’t mean you
shouldn’t skill other types. In fact I highly suggest that you take your time and skill every single
one you can. Apparently SE has something up their sleaves for upcomming updates. So now you have a
new incentive into skilling them. Hopefully ahead of time. Oh yeah, and please use your highest hit
weapon skill. Don’t use Full Break as a weapon skill when you could do Raging Rush and possibly get
3 skill ups while using your weapon skill.

Personally I’ve found that certain locations with a wide range of mob levels are nice to level your
skill at once you’ve got them high enough. I enjoy doing Crawler’s Nest and the Tree. In CN you’re
getting a level range from 30s all the way to 50s and Boyahda from 50 onwards. Most of your time will
probably be spent on Robber Crabs and Steelshells though. Here’s a tip though. Ever since the addition
of the NPC system, I’ve been bringing mine along with me. I often find myself going to Kuftal with it
just to get a few skills quick. It reduces downtime alot when you make yours a healer type NPC. On top
of that they cast haste on you from L40 up.

Q: I’m new to dynamis, I have no clue what I’m doing. (2006/04/16)
A: There’s a few key things that are common among all Dynamis LS. Callers for one. I happen to be caller in my
Dynamis LS, it’s quite fun. You are in no way supposed to solo tank these mobs, there’s so many people swarming
them usually that one voke is enough. Some people don’t even bother voking. I use two macros for my calling:
/targetnpc

and the other

/l Provoke /assist
/ja ‘Provoke’

If you aren’t caller then:
/assist (caller’s name)

I try not to stack too much hate also if you get a Monk to 2 hour, you’ll be down and have to sit out and
have someone else call. Another constant is having /autotarget off. There’s nothing worse than having you
or another person hitting a slept mob while others are calling something else. Death is inevitable, try and
keep a Reraise Gorget up. you may get silenced on occaision so bring some echo drops. Obey your leader, listen
attentively. One of the most annoying things is watching someone not hugging the wall infront of the death
house in Windurst. Attacking pets is out as well, if you attack most dynamis pets you get some of the worst ga
spells out there. So let the black mages handle those. Also something that can be annoying if you are the caller
is that people tend to creap up past you, when obviously, they should not obstruct your view. The only way to
fix this is to keep saying it. The most annoying thing is having a Bst or Drg or Smn or soon Pup infront of you
with their pets out. Tell them and remind them. If you’re melee try and fall back after a mob is defeated.
If you want to learn about the dynamis AF I mention them in the question: What Trait/Stat modifies X Job ability?.

Q: I’m level 50 or lower and I absolutely must dual wield. Got any suggestions? (2006/04/16)
A: I’ve purchased a Tactician Magician’s Espadon and offhand a Viking axe. +12att on one hand and +10acc on the other.
I find this combo quite apealing. I’ve used it for L50BCNM (CoP missions) and can close Distortion with Fast Blade.
This Two fold attack is as appealing as raging axe, probably better. Before L50 the Combat Caster’s Scimitar isin’t
too bad itself. It’s rather fast and provides Acc and Att. Of course, since I have merits in Swords I’m rather lured
to dual wielding these now, whereas it may not by that wonderful without them.

If that doesn’t work and you need FFXI gil fast I recommend The MMORPG Exchange Final Fantasy XI Gil providers. They’ve been in business since the game started, delivers directly to your mog house even when you’re away, and are fairly priced. Check your ffxi server here .

Have Fun!
